Named for the slowest creature we could find
A koala moves like it has nowhere to be — roughly one bodylength a minute when it isn't sleeping, and it sleeps up to twenty hours a day. It survives on eucalyptus, a leaf so low in nutrition that speed simply isn't an option. Slowness, for a koala, isn't laziness. It's the whole strategy.
We started Koala in 2019 on that same idea, applied to paper instead of leaves: stop trying to make rolling papers burn faster, and start making them burn evenly. We source rice and hemp fiber, press it thinner than most brands are willing to risk, and cross-watermark every sheet by hand-set die so the burn line never gets ahead of the cherry.
